L’ Entrée de Port de New York - Raoul Dufy

L’ Entrée de Port de New York
Raoul Dufy (1877-1953)

Raoul Dufy was a French painter profoundly influenced by impressionist landscapists, such as Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro. He later directed his interest to Fauvism and ultimately developed his own distinctive “stenographic” approach, which featured skeletal structures, arranged in a diminished perspective, and light washes of color applied with swift brush strokes.

Dufy’s L’Entrée de Port de New York is a 19 by 25 inch watercolor produced in 1950. The painting was obtained by Galleri Bellman New York in 1983 and later passed to the Clement Stone Collection. It was obtained by Sotheby’s New York on May 12, 1987.
