Dong Kingman (1911-2000)
Dong Kingman was an American painter of Chinese decent. He has been recognized as a master of watercolors. While in school, Kingman studied with Szeto Wai, the Paris-trained head of the Lingnan Academy, who introduced him to European trends and the Impressionists. During his late teens, Kingman was compared to leading artists Charles Burchfield, John Marin and George Grosz. During the Depression, Kingman emerged as one of America’s leading artists as well as a pioneer of The California Style School of Painting.
